Japan Food & Culture
Food and culture are a major part of a Japan trip, but they work best when they are built into the route rather than treated as a separate checklist.
Tokyo
Tokyo offers enormous variety, from sushi and ramen to izakaya, department-store food halls and specialist restaurants. Use the Tokyo hub to combine dining with neighborhoods you are already visiting.
Kyoto
Kyoto is strongest when food, traditional streets and cultural sightseeing are combined at a slower pace. Use the Kyoto hub to plan temple areas and evening districts together.
Osaka
Osaka is one of the easiest cities for casual food exploration. Namba and Dotonbori are obvious starting points, but local neighborhoods can be just as rewarding. See the Osaka hub.
Respect local spaces
Historic districts, temples, shrines and residential streets are living places. Follow posted rules, avoid blocking entrances and treat photography as secondary to the people who live and work there.
